The Eiffel Tower is the main symbol of Paris and was originally built for an exhibition but has remained in its place ever since - standing some 300 metres high and estimated to weigh 7000 tonnes it has seen thousands of visitors and rewarded them all with panoramic views across the city.

The other masterpiece that sits in the centre of the city is the Arc de Triomphe - built to honour the French Army back in 1806 - although it took 30 years to complete.

The streets of Paris have long been famous for the many artists that sit and paint their interpretations of the scenes before them - one of the best places to see these gentle folk at work is around the Montmartre where you can take the opportunity of visiting Sacre Coeur - inside the beautiful church you will see the largest mosaic in the world - that of Christ with outstretched arms - breathtaking.

The city is filled with monuments and museums and for some of the finest art in the world visit Orsay Museum - here you can view painting, sculptures, photography dating back to the 1800's and some amazing landscapes by Monet.

Good stuff: Location of hotel

Bad stuff: Reception said my credit card payment was not authorised: I had to argue with desk clerk for ages, while a queue built up Air conditioning in room was broken. Portable unit in room was also broken. (Blew out only cold air and noisily. Room was freezing Ground floor room had no open aspect, no privacy as room overlooked a small, dark courtyard where people went to smoke.

Overall: A nightmare really.
