Good stuff: Reasonably well placed.

Bad stuff: The hotel was being painted internallyand as result we were offered breakfast for the inconvenience. We were at that stage told that the paiinting would only take two more days and on that basis we stayed on. We have photographs of the condition of the hotel and will forward them onto you. We even found an old plimsole under the bed. The hairdryer didn't work and we had to change rooms to the fourth floor. They were not very gracious when complaints were made . Chairs were left on the table in the diningdoom during the breakfast. The staircase was constantly covered in plastic because of the painting. It continued for the entire stay which made looking for alternative accomodation immpossible and time consuming. We also found that people who booked in off the street only paid E51 per day where booking through you cost us E59. Please explain. There were no lights on the staircase as the painters closed them off which made them rather dark and dangerous. The curtains didn't close properly and the photographs will show this. I look forward to your comments as I fully intend to take this matter to the Ministry of Tourism in France if some com[pensation isn't offered. I must say tht we did go into the Ibis on one of the days around the corner from the Hotel Modern and they could offer us far superior accomodation for E59. But for the fact that it was time consuming to do this and the resultant fight would spoiul our stay, we decided to stay on. PLEASE DO COME BACK TO ME AS SOON AS YOU CAN. kind regards,John Silva

Good stuff: The hotel was kept very clean. The room was small but adequate.

Bad stuff: The hotel needs an elevator & air conditioning. Also needs staff that can communicate in english for the non-french speaking tourists

Overall: I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. The staff could barely understand anything other than french. There is no elevator in a hotel that has 6 floors. If you have a lot of luggage, you have to drag it up the narrow winding stairs. I saw an older couple come into the hotel when I was in the lobby and eventually caught up with them on the third floor. They were out of breath and stuggling with thier luggage. There is a continental breakfast - if you call it that. All we got was a piece of bread each, a croissant, a glass of orange juice and choice of coffee or tea. We decided to go to a local grocery store and buy some cheese & milk to go with our 'breakfast'. It helped us get through the day a little better. The staff, for the most part were helpful, however there were times I was frustrated because they barely spoke english. I think that in a tourist class hotel, you should have staff that can speak and understand english. The first room we had faced the street. What a mistake. The street was a one way street and was always busy with all types of vehicles zooming by. Since the buildings are so close together, the sounds of the cars resonated louder and it made it very difficult to get to sleep. We switched rooms to one at the rear of the building and it was much better in terms of noise. There is also no air conditioning. Many times we left the windows open to allow for air flow. However, when it rains, you have to shut the windows and then you boil from lack of ventilation. I would not come back to this hotel again or recommend it to anyone travelling to Paris.
